Homewatch CareGivers works with various organizations to augment in-home care services as needed. Some of these are listed below. We selected these because, in our experience, they help fulfill the most common needs of seniors. Some people may only need these services without homecare while others may want these in addition to home care. All phone numbers listed are in the 650 area code unless otherwise indicated. 

1) Advance Health Care Directive: It is difficult for people to think about the care and treatment they want in the event they are incapable of making their own health care decisions. You may unexpectedly be in a position where you cannot speak for yourself - such as an accident or severe illness - and be unable to make treatment decisions. If this happens, you want to be assured that appropriate decisions are made. You can define in advance what medical treatment you prefer. An Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD) in California lets you say what you want and who you want to speak for you. An AHCD allows you to appoint an agent who has power of attorney to make care and treatment decisions on your behalf, and give instructions about your health care wishes. Copies of the completed form should be given to each person named as agent, or proxy, and to your primary care physician so that it can be added to your medical record.

2) Home Delievered Meals: Meals on Wheels in San Mateo County deliveres meals to people 18 years or older who are unable to prepare their own meals, go out to eat, or who have little or no assistance to obtain adquate meals. 3) Grocery Shopping: a) Friendly Visiting Service and the City of San Mateo Senior Center offer door-to-door transportation for grocery shopping for San Mateo residents. Call 342-3882. b) Second Harvest Food Bank's Operation Brown Bag offers a weekly supplemental bag of groceries in San Mateo for low-income disabled people age 55 and up and low income seniors age 60 or more. Call (800) 870-3663. c) Shopping Assistance for Seniors who are Homebound (SASH) matches seniors with volunteers who will grocery shop for them. Volunteers pay for groceries and are reimbursed upon delivery. 4) Transportation: San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) supplies a variety of services in San Mateo County, including disabled access and paratransit. Call (800) 660-4287.
